Malawi Beats Namibia 1-0

Not even death could stop Malawi from cruising past Namibia at the former's Independence Stadium in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

At the end of the 90 minutes, Malawi beat the Warriors by a goal to nil, thanks to 57th minute substitute Gabadinho Mhango. While some of the Flames' players had been on the pitch for 57 minutes, and failed to put one past the Warriors' goalkeeper,it took only 15 minutes for the soft-spoken Big Bullets' striker to put the Flames ahead and, after 90 minutes, give them victory.

Malawi's win was, however, overshadowed by the death of the son to caretaker head coach, Eddington Ng'onamo. The coach could not do otherwise but head back home some eight hours before the game.

But this was not enough to dampen the spirits of assistant coaches- Patrick Mabedi and Ernest Mtawali- and the players, and they went on to put up a gallant fight and, as it turned out, chalk an important win for the victory-starved Flames.

No wonder, Mabedi dedicated the win to Ng'onamo.

Malawi's chances of qualifying for the World Cup were further enhanced by Nigeria's 1-1 draw with Kenya. This means that the Flames are tied with the African champions on five points- making the 2014 journey to Brazil a hill so possible to climb.
